Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the proposed Cats Local Law 2024. At the Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday 22 October 2024, Council endorsed the Cats Local Law 2024, which will come into effect 14 days after gazettal. Read the Minutes (External link) from the 22 October 2024 Ordinary Council Meeting.
The date of final gazettal is yet to be determined. We’ll update this page once it is published in the Government Gazette and provide a link to the local law on the City’s website.
The City of South Perth proposes to repeal the Cats Local Law 2016 and replace it with the proposed Cats Local Law 2024.
The purpose of the proposed local law is to control the keeping of cats, set a number of cats a person can keep, provide controls for nuisance cats and to prohibit cats in specified areas.
The effect of the proposed local law is to encourage responsible cat ownership, that a person must not keep more than the prescribed number of cats provided for by the proposed local law and to create cat prohibited areas.

If you don't want to complete an online feedback form, you can make a written submission addressed to: Chief Executive Officer, City of South Perth, Cnr Sandgate St and South Tce, South Perth, WA 6151, including your name and postal address so the City can respond to your submission and advise you of the final outcome
