Coode Street Foreshore
The Coode Street Foreshore Engagement Outcomes Report is now available. Find out more about the Engagement Outcomes Report.
Help us further shape the vision for the area.
The Coode Street area of the South Perth Foreshore is a popular family destination with its wide-open green space, playground, café and riverside beach.
As custodians of the foreshore, the City of South Perth is committed to working with stakeholders and the community to ensure this much-loved reserve continues to be sustainably managed.
The vision for this area as outlined in the South Perth Foreshore Strategy and Management Plan (PDF, 12.8 MB) is to develop a better serviced family recreational space with improved facilities, a choice of food and beverage outlets, and a diversity of activities including an all ages and abilities playground, rowing, sailing, boat mooring, and water play.
In Stage One of this project, alongside the survey that closed on Tuesday 8 March, we will be conducting stakeholder and community engagement that will include workshops with key stakeholders, an onsite Shape the Coode Street Foreshore pop-up engagement event on Saturday 2 April, anytime between 10am-1pm and online activities to collect ideas and aspirations from the community.

Anon asked about 2 years agoHi there. Thank you for your comment. The City has been awarded funding from the Department of Communities towards a Changing Places toilet facility, and will investigate further funding opportunities in order to be able to implement full, accessible toilet facilities with a Changing Places toilet and outside hand-washing facilities, which is a clear priority from the stakeholder and community engagement. This will include requesting funds from Council.

Share I worry about lighting in the Coode Street foreshore area, it is okay when the StrEats Vans are there but not much lighting other times. In fact from the parking area at the other end of the park right up to the Narrows Bridge there is no lighting and the verge is cut so deep, you stagger if you walk off the pathway as it as black as black along there and you can’t see a thing. Solar lights would be a good idea. on Facebook Share I worry about lighting in the Coode Street foreshore area, it is okay when the StrEats Vans are there but not much lighting other times. Jill Evans asked over 2 years agoThank you for raising this matter with the City, we appreciate your feedback. The Coode Street Foreshore project is directly drawn from the City’s South Perth Foreshore Strategy and Management Plan 2015, which also includes improved lighting along the foreshore. Lighting will definitely be included in the plans for the Coode Street Foreshore project, and your suggestion of solar lighting will be considered. The City is also planning to undertake a South Perth Foreshore lighting masterplan, which is anticipated to take place in the 2022-23 financial year subject to funding. The masterplan will identify priority areas for lighting upgrades, provide consistent and effective lighting types and review the effectiveness of existing lighting.

Symons Diane asked over 2 years agoHi there, thank you for your feedback about public toilets along the foreshore. The City’s recent Public Toilet Plan 2020-2035 provides guidance on the planning, construction, maintenance and operation of public toilet infrastructure within the City. The Plan makes a number of key recommendations, including consideration of a new public toilet facility at Coode Street Foreshore, which is being further investigated as part of this project. You can view the City’s Public Toilet Plan here.

Alx asked over 2 years agoHi. Thanks for your question. Following a resolution at the March 2022 Ordinary Council Meeting, all ratepayers will soon be entitled to an additional hour’s free parking in the car parks and roadside parking areas along the South Perth Foreshore.
In addition to the current one hour free parking in these areas, a new technology solution will enable ratepayers to register two licence plates with the City to receive an additional hour’s free parking (to provide a total of 2 hours free parking).
The City is working on implementation requirements for our current parking machines to enable this to happen and will implement the additional free hour in the near future. Please keep your eye out on the City’s website and our other communication channels as we will be providing more information about how ratepayers can register for the additional free parking.

Share One of the main problems with the current set-up along the foreshore is the the lack of separation between various activities immediately adjacent to the water front. Share Last Wednesday evening I was leaving the foreshore car park at approximately 19:00 hours when I nearly collided with 3 bikes who were travelling at speed along the cycle path without any lights. The area in question is shaded by mature trees that make it difficult to see anything on the cycle path that does not have lights. While I'm in favour of providing bicycles with the right of way, I am concerned that the poor visibilty near the junction of the cycle path and car park road is a risk to bike users and want to know if the council are considering installing lighting at the junction to improve visability? on Facebook Share Last Wednesday evening I was leaving the foreshore car park at approximately 19:00 hours when I nearly collided with 3 bikes who were travelling at speed along the cycle path without any lights. zarg90 asked over 2 years agoThank you for your question. The City will be installing new lights at the crossings at Coode Street Foreshore next financial year, and additional signage and line marking is also scheduled to be installed in the near future to further improve safety at intersections and help address some of the issues you’ve identified.

Share Recently a swan was killed by a cyclist. Over the last 20years I have seen numerous incidents where speed cyclist have hit pedestrians and wildlife alike. I leasure ride on the foreshore at a leisure pace and never have had an incident. Clearly it is the SPEED CYCLISTS using it as a velodrome doing their personel best that is the problem. (Earphones in and head down). When is common sense going to prevail and these speed cyclist brought to account. Changing our beautiful foreshore is not going to stop the problem, alleviating the speed will solve all the problem. Suggestions.- Have metal barriers to navigate around and speed humps to prevent dangerous speed on cycle ways. I resonate with the comments below from Serenity. Amanda asked over 2 years agoThank you for your question. We were also saddened to hear that the swan was hit and later died.
The City has taken a number of additional measures in the last week and will continue to try and look at ways to manage bike/people/animal interactions. As part of our efforts to keep the swans safe, we have recently painted swans graphics on the path on both sides of the Black Swan Habitat and additional signage has been placed along the paths. These measures have been introduced to increase the awareness of swans in the area and to encourage riders to slow down.
We are also exploring other ways to slow cyclists such as the installation of ramble strips, however, the challenge is to get something that is effective but doesn’t’ create an additional hazard for all path users and animal life. This is something that the City will continue to work to improve.

Share Why do you think it is necessary to CHANGE anything about this wonderful , easily accessible , open space? Every city in the World is envious of Perth with it's wide open spaces and river access for passive enjoyment that areas like this afford to everyone and anyone who cares to go there and enjoy the tranquil and the uncluttered and simple pleasures of grass and shrubs and birdlife ; the sheer enjoyment of nature , uncomplicated by brash distractions and and intrusive "developments" that add nothing but irritation ! It already has "ease of access" ; walking and cycling paths , a jetty for river access , toilets and food available and "water activities" which do not impinge detrimentally on the birdlife in the area.
