Amended Local Planning Policy 2.4 - Child Care Premises
At the Ordinary Council Meeting held on Tuesday 24 June 2025, Council resolved to advertise amendments to Local Planning Policy 2.4 Child Care Premises.
The City regularly reviews its local planning policies (LPPs) to make sure they stay up to date, match State planning frameworks, reflect community aspirations on planning related matters, and support implementation of the City of South Perth Local Planning Scheme No. 7 (LPS7).
The City has prepared amendments to Local Planning Policy 2.4 - Child Care Premises (LPP2.4) to give clearer guidance around where child care centres can go and how they may be designed to fit well in the neighbourhood. Here’s a summary of the proposed changes:
- Addition of a new guideline that encourages child care centres to be located on corner sites, which helps reduce the impact on nearby properties.
- A new option to allow longer opening hours for centres in mixed-use zones.
- We’re making a few smaller updates too, including:
- Changing the policy title to include the policy number.
- Fixing some small typos.
- Removing reference to ‘child day care centres’.
- Adding an existing design provision to ensure child care premises orientate towards the primary street and where located on a corner site, address both the primary and secondary street.
- Improving the landscaping requirements for car parking areas to accommodate medium-sized trees.
- Adding a reference to our recently adopted Local Planning Policy 3.1 Waste Management.
- Requiring a noise management plan that shows how noise will be managed – with details included on the development plans.
