Why is the City developing a Youth Plan?
The City is developing its first Youth Plan to address the needs and aspirations of young people in our community and to be able to plan relevant events, programs and services. An annual action plan will be developed once the Youth Plan has been finalised.
This is the City’s inaugural Youth Plan and will build the foundation for subsequent youth plans.
Who developed the Youth Plan?
The Youth Affairs Council of WA (YACWA) was engaged by the City to analyse the data collected in the surveys and together with research, experience and best practice, to draft the Youth Plan. YACWA is the State's peak body for youth affairs and is widely acknowledged as a leader in the field of youth participation.
YACWA trained a group of City of South Perth Youth Plan Ambassadors to carry out face to face surveys with young people. The South Perth Youth Network (SPYN) and ambassadors were involved in the creation of the survey questions.
What is the South Perth Youth Network (SPYN)?
The South Perth Youth Network (SPYN) is the City of South Perth’s youth leadership team. The group is made up of young people aged 12-25 from a wide range of backgrounds, who are keen to take action around the issues that they care about. Find out more about SPYN on the City’s website.
What are the next steps?
The draft Youth Plan has now been endorsed by Council to go out for public feedback. Once the feedback period has closed, all comments received will be analysed and the draft Plan revised accordingly. It will be presented to Council for adoption in early 2022.
