Vision 2027 survey results

Results from the City of South Perth’s Vision 2027 survey have been analysed, with the key findings outlining the community’s priorities and aspirations for the City and helping shape the future vision.

Conducted as Stage One of a major review of the City’s Strategic Community Plan to guide and inform the development of the City, its strategies, and projects over the next 10 years, the survey asked the community three questions:
  • What are the three things you like most about living in or visiting the City?
  • What three ideas do you have that would make the City a better place to live or visit?
  • What priorities would you like the City to focus on over the next 10 years?
Almost 1,200 responses were collected between 7 November and 12 December 2016.

The information highlighted that the community’s priorities for the City focused on three key areas:
  • Planning and Design;
  • Infrastructure and Transport;
  • Economy and Lifestyle.
“It was great to have such an overwhelming response to the Vision 2027 survey with people commenting on everything from future development, parking and traffic to activation of the South Perth foreshore,” Mayor Sue Doherty said.

“The City’s proximity to Perth CBD, the Swan River and the centrality of South Perth are hugely important to our community, as are the village atmosphere and community spirit.

“The natural environment, the river, beautiful parks, open spaces and leafy streetscapes also rated highly when people were asked what they liked most about living in, or visiting the City.

“Activating the café, restaurant and bar scene had widespread support too. It was particularly popular amongst the younger demographic, as was improving the retail offering.

“The survey also revealed our community were supportive of improvements in public transport, specifically a train station in South Perth as well as more public parking and free shopper parking.”

The information gathered has been used to design upcoming community and stakeholder workshops being held from 22 to 27 March 2017. With the survey outcomes and responses to be discussed further in detail with the community, who will help to develop strategies for the Strategic Community Plan.

“Over 800 people from our community have registered their interest in coming to a workshop. It’s encouraging that so many are wanting to share their ideas and thoughts for the future of our City," Mayor Doherty said.

“At these workshops the community will work to create a vision for the City in each of the workshop focus areas, review current strategies and create new ones.

“We’re looking forward to shaping the City’s future with you.”

Places are limited at the workshops. To find out more visit Your Say South Perth and register by 5pm Friday 10 March 2017.

The outcomes from the workshops will be used to develop strategies for the Strategic Community Plan 2017-2027. The draft Plan will be released for community and stakeholder feedback in May 2017, with the final Plan presented to Council in July 2017. Once the Plan has been adopted by Council, a Corporate Business Plan will be developed to outline how the City will meet the aspirations and achieve the priorities in the Strategic Community Plan 2017-2027.
