What are local planning policies?
Local Planning Policies (LPPs) are used to assist local governments in making planning decisions under the local planning scheme by outlining acceptable development standards and establishing clear expectations to applicants on how local governments are likely to exercise discretion.
What will happen to Local Planning Policy P350.09 Significant Views?
Policy P350.09 Significant Views will still apply until a new policy replaces it and it is revoked. The City will have regard to the existing and draft LPP when assessing applications.
Why has the City developed draft Local Planning Policy 7.2 Significant Views?
At the December 2024 Ordinary Council Meeting (OCM), the City recommended P350.09 Significant Views be revoked. Council resolved to adjourn debate on the item to the March 2025 OCM to enable an Elected Member workshop on the matter. Following the workshop, at the March 2025 OCM Council requested the Chief Executive Officer prepare a draft Local Planning Policy - Significant Views. Council resolved to advertise this draft at the June OCM.
What are the consultation requirements for LPPs?
The consultation requirements for LPPs are set out in the Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015 and the City's Local Planning Policy - Advertising of Planning Proposals. New LPPs and major amendments to existing LPPs are required to be advertised for a minimum of 21 days. Consultation is not required for minor amendments to LPPs or LPPs that are revoked by Council.
