At the Ordinary Council Meeting on 27 October 2026, Council resolved to advertise the following draft amended Local Planning Policies:

  1. Local Planning Policy 3.1 – Waste Management;
  2. Local Planning Policy 6.1 – Advertising of Planning Proposals;
  3. Local Planning Policy 6.2 – Design Review Panel; and
  4. Local Planning Policy 7.1 – Signage and Advertisement.

Local Planning Policies (LPPs) assist local governments in making planning decisions under the local planning scheme by outlining acceptable development standards and establishing clear expectations to applicants on how local governments are likely to exercise discretion.

The City reviews its Local Planning Policies on an ongoing basis to ensure it has a planning framework that is:

  • contemporary
  • consistent with State planning frameworks
  • reflects the community’s aspirations on planning-related matters
  • supports the implementation of Local Planning Scheme No. 7 (LPS 7).

As part of its ongoing framework review, the City has begun reviewing its LPP suite, guided by the draft WA Planning Manual for Local Planning Policies released by the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage (DPLH) in October 2025.

The City is now seeking feedback on four draft amended LPPs.
