Why was the original equipment replaced in March 2021?
As part of the City’s playground renewal program, an independent assessor determined that the 25-year-old equipment was identified as being at the end of its serviceable life.
Why was the original equipment replaced with such different equipment?
The equipment installed in March 2021 included two new traditional swing sets and a basket swing, was chosen to complement a new playground that is planned for the area near Coode Street jetty. This is a priority action of the City’s South Perth Foreshore Strategy and Management Plan.
Why is the playground now being expanded?
Following the installation of the equipment in March 2021, the City received feedback about the lack of universally accessible play equipment. In response, Council endorsed the development of a design and cost estimate to install an all abilities accessible and inclusive playground at the site to be included in the draft 2021/22 Capital Works program. The community feedback was taken into consideration in the design of the additional equipment.
When will the new equipment be installed?
The play equipment is scheduled for installation over three weeks in winter 2022.
