What is a design review panel?
The role of a design review panel is to provide independent and impartial professional advice on design quality to the decision making authority. This will include evaluation of a proposal in accordance with the ten Design Review Principles identified by the State Government in State Planning Policy - 7.0 Design of the Built Environment. The panel may identify and recommend improvements required to achieve a high quality of design within a development proposal, consistent with the stated vision and goals of, in this case, the Canning Bridge Activity Centre Plan (CBACP).

Panel members are required to have appropriate qualifications and substantial experience in architecture and urban design or in one or more of the following nominated areas:

How are panel members selected?
Panel members are appointed following the completion of an expression of interest process. Prospective members will be highly regarded within their field, and will be endorsed by two professional referees or independent professional peers, who can attest in writing to the suitability of the candidate for membership of the panel.
Panel membership is subject to endorsement by the Chief Executive Officers of the City of Melville and the City of South Perth.
Are design review panel meetings open to the public?
No. Comments from the Design Review Panel are used in the assessment of the development application and will be included in the reporting to Council or the Joint Development Assessment Penal, as applicable.
Is there a cost to the City for having applications reviewed by the Design Review Panel?
Yes. Applicants are required to pay $750 each time a proposal is presented to the Design Review Panel.
