Planning Policies

The City’s policies are reviewed annually in accordance with the Local Government Act 1995.

Only the City's Planning Policies go out for public consultation in accordance with City Policy P301 and the Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015.

Amendments are required to planning policies in response to changes in other government policy (for example the Residential Design Codes) or other factors. Only policies that are amended will be advertised for community comment.

All planning policies currently open for public comment through formal submissions are listed below:

  • Draft Local Planning Policy P321: South Perth Activity Centre Competitive Design Policy

    In addition to the draft South Perth Activity Centre Plan (ACP) and proposed Town Planning Scheme Amendment No. 61 (Amendment No. 61), the City is also seeking feedback on draft Local Planning Policy P321: South Perth Activity Centre Competitive Design Policy (Policy P321).

    Policy P321 sets out the processes and requirements for undertaking a competitive design process to satisfy design quality requirements in the draft ACP and proposed Amendment No. 61.

    The City has received a request to amend its Town Planning Scheme and adopt a new local planning policy within the area bound by Curtin University, Garvey St, Keaney Pl and MacKay St, Waterford (the amendment area). The City is seeking feedback on Amendment No 60 and the draft local planning policy – P351.20. The draft policy provides objectives and design criteria for a future ‘purpose built student accommodation facility’ in the amendment area. The draft policy outlines a number of overall objectives along with specific objectives and policy provisions relating to:

    The City is seeking feedback on draft modified local planning policy P350.03- Setback of garages and carports, garage width, design of car parking spaces and vehicle access’. Feedback period closes 4pm, Wednesday 6 February 2019.

    Policy P350.03 provides the criteria for the design of car parking spaces and structures for residential development. The existing policy has been reviewed to align with the Residential Design Codes, the City’s Town Planning Scheme No. 6 and to provide modified criteria for the assessment of applications involving the use of car-stacking equipment for vehicle parking.

    The City is seeking feedback on draft modified local planning policy P350.03- Setback of garages and carports, garage width, design of car parking spaces and vehicle access’. Feedback period closes 4pm, Wednesday 6 February 2019.
